Home to the oldest licensed brewery in the UK, The 3 Tuns is a must-visit. You can try their award-winning beers brewed on site right there in the pub. Great food and a proper local atmosphere — their Sunday roast is well worth planning your trip around.

A beloved local run by Mandy, who is something of a Bishops Castle institution. On summer Sundays there's a BBQ and live music from 5pm. They do a great G&T.

A favourite local walk. Head up the hill for breathtaking views then loop through Henley Woods. Turn right out of the car park and walk to the top of the hill until you reach the wood and telephone mast.

A 200-mile long-distance path taking in the Shropshire Hills, historic towns and unique natural features. Links Shrewsbury with Bishop's Castle, Clun, Ludlow, Much Wenlock, Ironbridge and Wellington.

Accessed from Church Stretton, the Long Mynd is one of Shropshire's great walks. There's a freshwater reservoir for wild swimming and spectacular ridge walks with views into Wales.

A beautifully preserved small market town just over the Welsh border. Castle Kitchen Café on the main street is a lovely spot for cake and tea after visiting the castle ruins above the town.

A charming town nestled in the hills, gateway to the Long Mynd. Great cafés, good pubs, and some of the best walking in Shropshire on the doorstep.

There's a freshwater reservoir accessible from Church Stretton for a bracing dip. Best in summer — head to Jemima's Kitchen afterwards to warm up.
