Top 3 Pubs for Eating Near Bishops Castle, Shropshire

South Shropshire does pubs properly. Stone flags, real fires, locally sourced food and the kind of welcome that makes you stay longer than you planned.

Whether you're after a long lunch after a morning walk, a candlelit dinner, or a cold pint in a sun-drenched beer garden, there's plenty within easy reach of the huts. These are our three favourites for food.

The Bridges, Ratlinghope

20 minutes from the huts · Best for: locally sourced food

Tucked between the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones, The Bridges is one of the most special pubs in Shropshire and one of the hardest to leave. The menu changes seasonally and draws heavily on produce from the Lynnly estate, so what you eat is genuinely rooted in the landscape you've just been walking through. In summer the setting is stunning and in winter the atmosphere is exactly what you'd want after a cold day on the hills.

Good to know: Worth booking ahead, especially at weekends. It gets busy for good reason.

The Lion, Leintwardine

30 minutes from the huts · Best for: creative food by the river

Already a favourite on our wild swimming guide, The Lion earns its place on this list too. The dinner menu is inventive and carefully put together, the kind of cooking you'd be happy to find in a city restaurant but here you're sitting by the river in a Shropshire village. On Fridays and Saturdays during the warmer months they fire up a wood-fired pizza oven outside during the day, which is a very good reason to plan a long lazy lunch.

The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle

The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle

10 minutes from the huts · Best for: beer garden in summer, cosy fires in winter

Right in the centre of Bishops Castle, The Castle Hotel works beautifully in every season. Come summer, the beer garden is one of the best spots in town, a proper sun trap with good food and a gin and tonic worth writing home about. In winter it becomes something cosier: log fires, warm lighting and pub food that hits the spot after a cold day out.

As guests of Shropshire Shepherd's Huts, you'll receive 10% off food at The Castle Hotel throughout your stay. Just mention it when you order.

Oak Hut and Olive Hut put you right in the middle of all of this. Great walking, great swimming and some of Shropshire's finest pubs within half an hour.
